biography

Chris Martin, born 1954 in Washington, studied painting at Yale University and art therapy at the School of Visual Arts. Since the 1980s he has been an influential figure in the artistic community of Brooklyn, New York. By „letting the paintings make themselves“ he explores the psychological possibilities if art. His works are mostly abstract in composition but have a very strong connection to the physical world: Martin incorporates objects into his geometrical and patterned paintings that relate to his memories of music, literature and spirituality.

His works were shown at various institutions such as the Kunsthalle (Düsseldorf), The Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington), The Brant Foundation (Greenwich), Nationalmuseum (Berlin), PS1 Museum (Long Island City) and The Denver Museum (Denver).
