Something undefined adheres to the artistic concept of the creature. It occurs when the creator strays from the exact image, abandons the anatomical structure of the body and ultimately withdraws from scientific reality. Like a figure that is sewn together from different tissues, different appearances are linked together. It’s a process that also binds the private with the historical. Personal signs, which are tied to the history of the individual, merge with general signs that are tied to the history of art. In the guise of an animal, a human, or even a combination of both, the creature breaks through the rigid framework of the familiar. Whilst distorting the existent, the reference to the real is never lost. The creature is a phantasm that draws one into wondrous primeval depths. It is its undefined something that awakens the "optical unconscious" and forces the viewer to become part of the image.
